ALHOSN University is an educational institution founded in 2005 located in Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates. ALHOSN University has three faculties containing a total of nine departments.

History

Founded in 2005 by Abu Dhabi Holding Company in response to growing local demand for high-quality educational institutions, the university was named after the historic ALHOSN Palace in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. The ALHOSN board ordered the development of a world-class curriculum through the assistance of experienced North American educators and the adoption of services based on best educational sector practices. The university opened its doors to an initial batch of 94 students under five undergraduate programs.

ALHOSN Palace

Sheikh Shakhboot Bin Zayed Al Nahyan built it as a castle when the seat of government was moved from the Liwa Oasis to the Abu Dhabi Island in 1793.

Academic information

ALHOSN presently offers 11 undergraduate and 7 graduate programs accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (Commission for Academic Accreditation) and oversees an English Language Center and a Continuing Education Center. It publishes the ALHOSN University Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences, a biannual refereed journal.

Faculties

Campuses and buildings

The university’s City Campus includes the Men’s Campus, the Women’s Campus, a Library Building, a Lectures Building, an Engineering Labs Building and a Studio Building. A world-class main campus is being planned. Students of all nationalities and those with special needs are accepted, and women are encouraged to join the engineering programs.

Admissions

An estimated 1,400 students during the spring of 2009 and an 831% increase in the 2009 summer enrolment over the past three years. Several service and facility upgrades where implemented in 2009, including the construction of a new Studio Building.

Web-based services

The University uses the Moodle system[1] for e-learning.[2]
